Algorithmic Pricing and Price Gouging. Consequences of High-Impact, Low Probability Events

چکیده
Algorithmic pricing may lead to more efficient and contestable markets, but high-impact, low-probability events such as terror attacks or heavy storms price gouging, which trigger injunctions get sellers banned from platforms Amazon eBay. This work addresses how impact prices when set by an algorithm different markets be affected. We analyze mitigate these high-impact paying attention external (market conditions) internal (algorithm design) features surrounding the algorithms. find that both forces help in partially mitigating it remains unknown complete mitigation.

Diverse Consequences of Algorithmic Probability
We reminisce and discuss applications of algorithmic probability to a wide range of problems in artificial intelligence, philosophy and technological society. We propose that Solomonoff has effectively axiomatized the field of artificial intelligence, therefore establishing it as a rigorous scientific discipline. We also relate to our own work in incremental machine learning and philosophy of c...
متن کاملThe Ethics of Price Gouging
Price gouging occurs when, in the wake of an emergency, sellers of a certain necessary goods sharply raise their prices beyond the level needed to cover increased costs. Most people think that price gouging is immoral, and most states have laws rendering the practice a civil or criminal offense. The purpose of this paper is to explore some of the philosophic issues surrounding price gouging, an...

Price gouging. There’s no other name for it. In recent years, many in the pharmaceutical industry have embarked on a largely unfettered campaign of drug price gouging. American Family Physician contributing editor Allen Shaughnessy, PharmD, outlines many examples in the accompanying editorial on this topic.1 Michael Munger, MD, president-elect of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP)...
متن کاملPignistic Probability Transforms for Mixes of Low- and High-Probability Events
In some real world information fusion situations, time critical decisions must be made with an incomplete information set. Belief function theories (e.g., DempsterShafer theory of evidence, Transferable Belief Model) have been shown to provide a reasonable methodology for processing or fusing the quantitative clues or information measurements that form the incomplete information set. For decisi...
